NearSend

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

This policy explains what information may be processed when you use NearSend. The exact data handled can depend on your browser, network, hosting provider, and whether a direct peer-to-peer connection succeeds.

1. Files you transfer

NearSend is designed not to create a persistent server-side file library. In a successful WebRTC transfer, file data travels directly between the two browsers. If the app falls back to its WebSocket relay, file chunks may pass through the hosting function while being forwarded. The receiver’s browser temporarily keeps chunks in memory to assemble the downloaded file. Do not assume that all transfers bypass the server.

2. Device and connection information

To discover and connect devices, the service processes temporary connection identifiers, a device label, browser/device-type information, signaling messages, and network connection metadata. The hosting provider may process IP addresses, request logs, diagnostics, and security information under its own policies.

3. Device name storage

If you rename your device, the selected name is saved in your browser’s local storage so it can be reused on that device. It is not an account profile.

4. Cookies and local storage

The current app uses browser local storage for the device name and may use browser storage features required for the web app. It does not require a NearSend account to transfer files.

5. Third-party services

The deployment may rely on Vercel for hosting and on external content delivery for the icon library or QR-related fallback resources. Those providers may receive technical information when your browser connects to them. Review their privacy documentation for details.

6. Retention

NearSend’s signaling state is intended to be temporary while connections are active. Hosting, infrastructure, or security logs may be retained by the hosting provider according to its own retention settings and policies. NearSend does not promise a specific log-retention period.

7. Your choices

8. Children and sensitive information

NearSend is a general-purpose file transfer tool and is not designed to collect sensitive personal information. Do not transfer sensitive information unless the service and your connection are appropriate for it.

9. Policy changes

This policy may be updated when the implementation or hosting changes. The date above indicates the latest stated revision.
